Cannabis Industry: A Visit From Thailand

Capna Systems is proud to be a leader in the cannabis industry. We’ve worked long and hard to develop our proprietary form of supercooled ethanol extraction and we’re always excited to share these developments with anyone and everyone in the cannabis industry. So, with this in mind, we’re thrilled to say that we recently had a visit from the National Cannabis Research Association of Thailand that led to some exciting long-term partnerships!

Cannabis Industry: Legalization in Southeast Asia

We all know that the cannabis industry is exploding! We’re living in a veritable gold rush and there is plenty of demand for innovation and development. Now, what many people may not know is that in December of 2018, Thailand’s National Legislative Assembly legalized the import, export, possession, production, and use of cannabis or hemp products for medicinal use. Consequently, Thailand made history by becoming the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize cannabis for medicinal purposes.

Let’s take a moment to consider the implications of this amazing development – this means that the widespread legitimization of cannabis has now gone international. As a result, new markets are rapidly opening up, paving the way for future partnerships and developments in our booming business. That being said, it’s critical to build strong relationships with the movers and shakers in these emerging markets in order to form long-term, profitable partnerships.

A Visit from Thailand

Dr. Pripat, the president of The National Cannabis Research Association of Thailand, has been instrumental in creating a Cannabis Business Management (CBM) mini-MBA program. This five-month course is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia and has gained significant international interest.

Now, one of the conditions for graduation from this innovative course was to take an educational trip to California from November 16-21, 2019, to learn about the cannabis industry. This trip covered every step of the cannabis production process, from farming to hemp extraction (including our proprietary form of supercooled ethanol extraction) as well as retail and market dispensaries. The students were able to get an accurate picture of the cannabis industry in order to truly understand everything that goes into getting these products to the end-stage consumer.

Furthermore, this trip was facilitated by our partner at Wishnew Biotechnologies, Dr. Aimon Kopera. She is a key opinion leader and speaker on cannabis research and the hemp extraction industry as well as the former Chief Medical Officer of Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital in Bangkok. With her help, Capna Systems was thrilled to host 30 visitors from various backgrounds, including business professionals, growers, and extractors who all traveled to the US to learn more about this emerging industry.

Over the course of a day, we gave the visitors the full rundown on our equipment, showing them the nuts and bolts of our ethanol extraction process. By giving them this comprehensive tour, they walked away with a thorough understanding of industrial hemp extraction as well as how our systems could be customized and implemented to meet the needs of any large- or small-scale operation. Furthermore, in addition to showing our CBD extraction operation at our HQ in Sylmar, California, the visitors also spent several days attending an Oaksterdam Seminar, a cannabis farm in Bakersfield, and even dispensaries in Venice Beach.

Building Partnerships Overseas

Throughout this “meeting of the minds”, so to speak, Capna Systems also discussed the logistics of building extraction facilities in Thailand. Considering that the entire group was involved in the burgeoning cannabis industry, it was advantageous for everyone to consider the ins and outs of how to develop industrial hemp extraction in that country. Remember, it’s been barely a year since medicinal marijuana was made legal there, so the market is primed for a great deal of growth.

This is how Capna Systems envisions the future of cannabis and hemp extraction – building partnerships overseas in order to innovate in emerging markets. Furthermore, by implementing our custom solutions and proprietary supercooled ethanol extraction, we can ensure that new companies have the precise tools needed to make their operations fully viable and profitable. “The sky’s the limit!” as they say.

Furthermore, this is what differentiates Capna Systems from other manufacturers. Not only are we at the forefront of innovative development for the actual equipment, but we’re also keen to develop connections in emerging markets. This will allow business partnerships to blossom and flourish.

We’re proud that The National Cannabis Research Association of Thailand chose Capna to teach them about ethanol extraction. We’re also thrilled to report that after this visit, we’re building long-term partnerships with them. This is because our systems are so easy to use – this is crucial in a country like Thailand where the industry is so new.

What Our Visitors Said

Our entire team at Capna Systems was especially proud to hear the specific feedback from some of the visitors. For example, Nat Triamchaisri of the company Euro Best Technology Co., Ltd, was previously confused about industrial hemp extraction and what kind of extraction or distillation machines would be necessary for such an operation. As an engineer for his company, he was looking for granular analysis of wide-scale hemp extraction and practical solutions for cannabis production.

Luckily, our team was able to answer his questions and he gained a thorough understanding of how our system of ethanol extraction works. Additionally, he was “interested in representing Capna back in Thailand” due to our “high standards” and the fact that we’re “well specialized and able to assist in hemp extraction at a very high level.”

That wasn’t the only positive feedback we got! Kanassawan Suwanwatcharachat, a project planner for Nixxie Intelligent Co., Ltd, came to California with a very specific goal in mind: to learn about the initial investments needed for successful hemp extraction. This included the cost and number of machines as well as the logistics of licensing to create extraction facilities back in Thailand. Thankfully, our knowledgeable team was able to answer all these questions and give everyone a full and thorough understanding of the entire process.

Learn More About Ethanol Extraction!

We’re happy to report that this visit from Thailand was another success for Capna Systems in 2019. Now that we’re in 2020, however, we’re working harder than ever to keep developing and innovating. As always, we remain committed to providing our clients with efficient, scalable, and automated equipment to boost the capacity of their industrial hemp extraction.
